1Cheep construction designed to fall appart.Nov 06, 2006
By mlitty
Pros: none.

Cons: Cheep construction, high price, falls apart, frustrating assembly, disappointing quality compared to horse sold by the same company.

I have known Breyer to be famous for their collectible horses. My daughter has been collecting them for years. When we saw the "Classics Barn" by Breyer near her birthday, we knew she would love to have it for her collection.

I cannot express my level of disappointment when I opened the box. The design and construction is what I might expect from a dollar store product. Yes, the graphics are pretty, but I'll be surprised if it lasts a month, and that's after I've reinforced every part of it.

To start with the walls are a single thin sheet of cardboard and the floor is another thin sheet, the same kind that the packaging box is made from. That sheet of cardboard slips into a groove in a plastic frame that is the support for the floor cardboard, and again into a thin groove in the plastic roof.

Because the cardboard bends and twists as you try to assemble it, and all three walls must be assembled at once, the walls are continually slipping out of one place as you slip it into another. Once you finally have it assembled, don't move it, because it slips apart much easier and faster than it slips together.

To make matters worse, the thin plastic posts in the front, from which the gates hang, also must be put in at the same time as the walls because they too have to slip into holes in the roof and floor frame.

The stall dividers then slip easily into a groove in the front posts and a short notch in the back of the floor frame. The only upright support is in the front. The back is free standing/falling.

Note the repeated use of the word "slip" There are no clips, fittings, or fasteners of any kind in any part of this construction, and all of the fittings are loose. It reminds me of a house of cards. I ended up using 10 sticks of hot glue in an attempt to not have to reassemble it every ten minutes.

Assembly took a little over half an hour, and it was the most frustrating half hour I've spent on a kids toy. That's saying a lot considering how many Barbie things I've had to wrestle out of their packaging. The frustration was made worse by the memory of how much this thing cost combined with the thought that I would have to do this over and over again unless I could some how fix this terrible design (hot glue). It was worse yet knowing that even by best fix would leave me with a thin cardboard barn destined for a short life and a quick trip to the trash bin and the knowledge that my daughter would be dissapointed by a broaken birthday gift long before she tires of playing with her hoarses.

1Unbelievably disappointingJan 02, 2007

Breyer should be ashamed to put their name on a toy like this. Flimsy, cheaply made, and frustrating to any child trying to actually play with it. Made me want to throw it into the fireplace on Christmas morning.

1please do not buy thisDec 10, 2006
By Dennis Collier "woodsculpture.com"
This is the very first review I have written. I have never been as disappointed with a product as I am with this one.

It is literally a cardboard box without the strength of a cardboard box. The first reviewer described it perfectly. I did not buy this from amazon but I felt so strongly that I decided to air my frustration here. Once my niece saw it, there was no way to take it back so I used all the tape I could and hoped for the best. Breyer should be ashamed of this product.

5My daughter loves this toy!Apr 26, 2008

My daughter includes this toy with her dollhouse and takes her dolls out back to the stables. She plays with this for hours!
