 Fun but not really for younger childrenDec 31, 2009

Kit comes with 2 padlock sized models (their not very big only like 3 inches high, which is okay but just thought I would mention it) the Quarter horse is male and the SaddleBred is female (which is nice because most breyers tend to be male) I would not recommend these for really young or impenitent people simply because if you want your model to look nice you need to paint a section of it and then let it dry. Impenitent painters will find their models look very sloppy. I would also recommend that you buy more paint (acrylic) better paint brushes and clear nail polish for better results (all of which can be found at walmart for cheap) My Quarter horses feet were a uneven and looked poorly made, but that was easily fixed with a nail filer (I think mine was just a fluke because I've bought other make your own breyers and they didn't have that problem). If your interested in customizing other models this kit is a nice introduction. The kit comes with a little booklet that gives you details on shading, highlights and general horse colors and markings. Unless you have experiences painting models and working with acrylics and blending paints I really would say do not expect your model to look like a professional breyer, I personally did not have a problem getting my models to look like professional breyers but I've had a lot of experiences in this field, just thought I would mention that because I have a feeling lots of people are probably let down with their results. As far as playing with them, I would say if your child is ruff that its not a good idea, the models legs look like they would break if you were too ruff with them. Over all its a nice little kit, I will probably buy it again in the future.

I bought two of these for 9 and 11 year old girls. The quality of the models is typical Breyer - pretty good. They are a little smaller than I was expecting, but that is ok. They seem to be the size of the Stablemates horses. The set comes with some typical horse paint colors. I like that it is an art kit, but retains play value after the painting is done. They are plenty durable enough for the girls to use with the rest of their Breyer collections.

My daughter really enjoyed this paint set. She said it was "cool". I would buy more paint sets from Breyer.

My granddaughter had a great time painting this horse. It has become a great play time toy and has some pride in the painting of it. There is another granddaughter that will enjoy one just like it in the not to distant future.
