 What a UNIQUE doll! A must-have for the Dora fan!Dec 06, 2005

I purchased this doll for my 3-year-old daughter for Christmas, and I have to say, I'm really impressed. It's amazing to hear it say your child's name! You can also program it with three other names that Dora will incorporate into the things she says, which I love. She really does "know" every name you can think of! My son's name is Benson, and I thought we'd probably have to settle for Dora saying "Benny," but no! Even Benson was on her list! My husband is a product design engineer, and even he was super impressed by the features of this doll. They really did think of everything--you can even program it while it's still in the box! Yes, I think it's kind of a pain that Dora can't remember more and that I'll have to reprogram her twice a week or so, but to see your daughter's face on Christmas morning when she hears Dora say her name will be priceless!
NOTE FOR PARENTS PROGRAMMING THE DOLL ON CHRISTMAS EVE WHEN FISHER-PRICE IS CLOSED: When I installed the drivers for this doll on my computer that runs Windows XP, I received an error message from Microsoft saying the software hadn't been tested by Microsoft for compatibility with Windows XP and that I shouldn't install it or it might make my computer unstable, susceptible to a virus, etc. I called Fisher-Price's customer service, and they told me the software was tested by their engineers and that it's completely safe. They told me to click "continue" to install the software. I just thought I'd pass the tip along!
Again, this doll is SO unqiue! It's definitely the hot, must-have toy for Christmas!
UPDATE FOR PARENTS HAVING TROUBLE INSTALLING THE DOLL'S SOFTWARE: I have read other reviewers saying this doll keeps giving the error message that it's not connected to the computer when it is. The doll is not defective--it goes back to the comments I made above about installing the drivers. To fix this problem, you just uninstall the drivers using the "control panel" on the start menu, and then you reinstall the drivers and make sure Windows XP knows it's okay to install the software even though Microsoft hasn't tested it. I, too, got the error message that the doll wasn't connected when it was because when I installed the drivers the first time, I stopped the installation process when I received the Microsoft error message. To fix the problem, just uninstall the drivers and install them again, making sure to accept the installation despite the error message. I hope that helps!

My daughter received this a few days early for her third birthday. We gave it to her early, because Dora counts down to the child's birthday AND birthday party (you program in both dates). She absolutely loves it.
You program in what time the child eats meals, naps and goes to bed. As long as Dora's switch is in the on position, she will say something to the effect of "it is time to eat dinner!" even when not being played with.
Also, the size and feeling of the doll is perfect. She is huggable and perfect for toting around.
The only thing I want to mention is that Dora can only hold three items in memory (of songs/games/stories) you have to be prepared to revist the computer anytime you want to change the song, story, or games. Not a huge deal, but I wasn't expecting that and thought I should mention it. It would be nice if once programmed, you only had to revisit the computer to change preferences (like favorite food/color/time for nap).
Otherwise, it is great. Every time Dora says her name, my daughter beams. And she brings her EVERYWHERE.

My daughter's birthday was to take place the next day. At 10pm I went to Wal-Mart, and after seeing on the package "over 100 songs, stories, and games", I thought this would be AWESOME! I bought this toy excited that the doll would actually sing happy birthday the next morning to my 2 year old!
I installed the software on my desktop (XP machine), but the real headache came when I hooked this thing to the computer (and I am a computer guy, so it shouldn't be that hard). I plugged in the doll with the USB provided cable, and Windows XP loaded the update to the drivers for the USB port. I clicked "Download to Dora", and the system came up with the "Incorrect Doll" that another reviewer mentioned. I tried Fisher Price's help files, but it was no help (in fact, it said call their customer svc department).
Following another reviewer's instructions to try this on a new computer, I loaded this software on my laptop. Hooked the doll in. Had Windows XP update the USB driver. Then with great anticipation I clicked "Download to Dora"....and.....and.....I received "INCORRECT DOLL"!
Finally, at 1AM...I gave up. I took the doll back to Wal-Mart. She got a nice tri-cycle instead.

I have to tell you.I LOVE THIS DORA DOLL!
I bought this for my daughters 3rd birthday and she loves it.
Just to hear Dora say her name was awesome for her.Her eyes shined all the way across the room.
And when Dora said she liked the same food as her and same color as her,she laughed with joy.I think this is the best Dora doll yet! Thanks Fisherprice! Money well spent!

I am so impressed with this toy. They have set it up so you can download all the information to Dora with out even taking her out of the box. She is all ready for Christmas. I can't wait for my daughter to open it and hear Dora say her name and know what she likes and her activites. You can also put in the names of your childs friends and family. She sings songs and play games. This toy is great!
