1Fatal Flaw Ruins Otherwise Excellent GameNov 13, 2007
By Tim
This is a fun variation of the Catch Phrase game that has been around for years. My family has enjoyed both the electronic and standard versions of this game.

This version asks users to guess song titles from the 60's on up. It gives you the song title and artist and you must get your team to say the song title without using any of the words from the title. It has a very fun added twist with the new "singing" rules. You can opt to play with the old standard rules, too. But for the new rules, you must get your team to 15 points (instead of 10) and you can get a bonus point when you win a round if someone on your team sang their clues. You're never required to sing, but you'll find yourself compelled to do so if you are competitive and that makes the game a lot more fun.

One minor annoyance is the electronic display width. It is too narrow for some of the long song titles. If you're unlucky enough to get a long title you'll have to sit there for a few extra seconds waiting/deciphering the words while they scroll across across the screen.

Another annoying problem we encountered was the game automatically shut itself off after being inactive for several minutes. We were in the middle of game and took a snack break and the game shut off and lost our scores.

Despite that, I would still highly recommend this game because it is so much fun if it didn't also have a fatal flaw. Repeats. After just a couple of games played we started encountering repeated song titles! We thought at first it was an aberration, but not even close. We scrolled through 10-20 songs just to find new ones that we hadn't played already in the hour or so we'd been playing. Then we would hit new titles for a while only to find a short time later the same problem!

It is not as if we went through thousands of songs before this happened. I think the first time we had probably been through about 50-100 songs when the first repeats hit. We were playing on the combined category settings (instead of one particular era it was giving us songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's). I suspect that is how most people will play it so to have this bug in the electronic game is just inexcusable. I'm sure we likely went through a small percentage of the songs stored in the games memory. Too bad the game comes to a screeching halt with this horrible bug. The game is a riot until the party comes crashing down once the repeats hit after a couple rounds.

5Catch Phrase Music Edition is A Great Family Game!Nov 18, 2007

My family gets together over all of the holidays, and we got a kick out of this game! It was hilarious watching cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmas, and grandpas trying to get their teamates to guess the songs! Most of my family had no idea what they were doing. The game was especiallt hard for me because I'm only 12 and I don't know many songs from the 60's to the 90's! But still, I would highly recommend this game for family game night, or maybe for a Christmas/Birthday present! I had so much fun playing this game as well as the origanal Catch Phrase!

3incredibly fun, but quickly played outDec 27, 2007

I had a blast playing the game but, I'd have to agree with one of the earlier reviews that talks about the game's "fatal flaw". My family got the game just recently as a Christmas present and being a huge fan of the original catch phrase, I was really excited to play this new version. I'm 23 years old and played the game for the first time with my wife and younger brother and sister. We were having a blast, the game is exceptionally fun when you know the song that pops up on the screen and you can try to sing it for your team earning extra points and making everyone in the room burst in to laughter. We quickly settled on the "pop mix" category that seemed to offer the best mix of older and more recent songs that all of us knew, hence the most singing. HOWEVER, to our dismay after only about an hour, maybe 3 complete games on the "pop mix" category the game started repeating songs. We scrolled through about 10 songs and found that we had already described ALL the songs that very night which obviously took all the fun out of that category. We switched to the "two thousands" category, which was ok, but contained more obscure songs that we couldn't sing as much, and if you can't sing the songs the game gets a little bit frustrating because you're often left trying to describe lots of little words like "I've", "those", "don't", etc. So, in conclusion I'd have to say that the game is incredibly fun, but I was shocked that they didn't include more well-known songs that people from various generations could easily sing because the game can be very frustrating to play otherwise.

5Great Party FunJan 12, 2008
By Poofs "Poofhead"
We played this game at a recent party and WOW we couldn't stop. The game is fun, exciting and funny. It is nice that you can choose your options on how to give a clue once you see the name of the song. You can sing part of the song, hum it, name band members, it is endless. Although the title on the product says Country & Rock, once you click on the item you will find that you can choose between a country game or a rock and roll game. We played the rock and roll. Funny part is when someone else is giving you the clues, you sit there like come on dummy but when it gets to you, you only have seconds to think and realize that it can be really hard. If you and your family and friends enjoy trivia games, well this is one game to have. I promise you, you will have tons of fun and be amazed at all of the songs you haven't heard in ages or completely forgot about. Enjoy!

3Fun the first timeSep 09, 2009
By Elton Evans
Having played "Catch Phrase" at group get together, I was looking forward to the same excitement from the music edition. The first time we played, the game delivered; however the game became more redundant with each successive play. After about 5 rounds, we were frequently skipping items that had come up in the previous round. In short, this is game is great fun for a couple of rounds, but there is very little replay to it.
