2A Great Value But Very Hard To Play WithNov 04, 2008
By G. Fox-Smith
It was a great value, to be able to get all the dolls, furniture and the house for such a great price. We got it for our daughter last year for Christmas. However, we are buying a new one for her for this year!

The doll house is really hard to play with. Having a semi-closed front makes it hard to "get into" the house. I find that it is hard for my kids to get the dolls into the setting positions and to place them on the couches and chairs without knocking other furniture items over. It is hard to move dolls from one room to the other. It is also hard for more than one child to play with it at a time. Seeing how they play with other doll houses, it appears that a doll house that is open in the fount is a much better design.

An open front doll house allows the kids to easily reach all the rooms. Also, it facilitates more than one child playing at a time (not to mention a grown-up's bigger hand). Also, an open face design takes up less space. You can push it against the wall and have only a small amount of space on either side for the dolls to "play outside". With this doll house, you need to have lots of room on either side of the doll house so kids can sit/lay down to reach into the side rooms.

I love Melissa & Doug toys, but i really wish they made this same doll house with an open front design.

5excellent toy at excellent valueDec 26, 2007
By Lesley Doherty "mother of two"
I ordered this for my daughter and she loves it, her brother loves to play with it also - and role-playing is so important.
It was very easy to assemble, took my husband maybe 30 mins.
The value is excellent, as it came with furniture for every room, and the dolls.
I knocked one star off durability, but that may have been more of a shipping error - I bought mine from Amazon, and they sent it as is, in it's shop box! with no extra packaging, so it had a minor ding on arrival.
If properly shipped, this may not have been an issue.
On the whole, a winner!

5simple pleasureApr 29, 2008

Grandma gave this to our four-year old girl for Christmas. She plays with it daily, so versatile, sometimes a house, sometimes a fortress, sometimes a barn. The front piece (atrium/balcony) is removeable and as such, is prone to being a little fragile, but otherwise this is a great looking set and feels good in your hands. Highly recommend this to encourage creative play.

3What is going on with Melissa & Doug toys?Jul 27, 2010
By writemyra "writemyra"
My 3-year-old daughter received this dollhouse as a present from my brother. When he buys toys for her, he usually chooses M&D toys because he knows I like this brand for quality wooden toys.

That is, I used to like it. This dollhouse is the third M&D product that has disappointed me. The other two were puzzles whose paints scratched off after minimal use. I didn't mind that so much as we got some play out of them and they weren't that expensive.

However, this dollhouse came with two glaring construction problems and a few minor ones. One screw slot for the back panel had a 2" split in it, making it practically useless to hold a screw. The screw slot on the other side wasn't drilled deep enough so that I could only twist the screw in about 3/4 of the way. One of the sliding doors was knocked out and couldn't be put back in without breaking the top or bottom door frame. Same problem for one of the doors of the armoire.

The detachable front door and balcony are cute ideas but the pegs fit very loosely. A brush of a 3-year-old's hand knocks the whole thing out. She loved having a big dollhouse with a family of dolls. The furniture pieces are cute and well-designed. The bed "linens" are a nice touch.

So it is unfortunate that after 30 - 45 minutes of assembly, I still felt nervous about the dollhouse's sturdiness because of the screw problems in the back panel. Had this not been a rather bulky gift from an uncle, I would've asked for a refund/exchange. As it was, my daughter can still play with it. She just rarely chooses to.

5Great doll houseFeb 01, 2010

Very durable, well made dollhouse. My son is enjoying it. I like it because it is very gender nonspecific. Other dollhouses were geared toward girls and even marketed toward girls. Great price.
