Great challenge for a 4 year old but still fun!Apr 27, 2007
By Michelle Leave it to Melissa and Doug to create a great puzzle for all those 4+ year old pirate lovers. My son has mastered the 48 piece floor puzzles but big pieces are still preferred so this was great. My only complaint (and it is picky) is that the picture on the front is blocked by some packaging print and so you have to check the tiny small pictures on the side; do-able but inconvenient! A must have for the pirate lovers!

Preschool PiratesSep 20, 2007

This puzzle was/is an excellent "challenge" activity, for a small group of youngsters. The bold, colorful graphics appeal to preschoolers.
Young students learn to work as a team to solve the puzzle. Kindergardeners like to find the pieces (hidden around the room) and count ( 10 piles of 10 = 100 ), before assembly begins.
It truly is a treasure!!! - S.K.Smith

Great puzzleJan 19, 2007

Big thick pieces and beautiful colors make this an ideal puzzle for young children. Machara(3) and Grace(7) put it together in less than 20 minutes and they never lost interest.

off gasses like crazyMay 23, 2010
By New Englander The puzzle is great, but the smell from the "easy-clean" surface is overwhelming.
As soon as I opened the box, I reeled back from the chemical/plastic smell. I admit to being an earthy-crunchy, natural-product kind of person, so you can take my comments about the chemical off gassing as you will. But I won't be buying another "easy-clean" puzzle, myself.
As for the puzzle itself, it's too challenging for a 4-year-old child to do on his own, but it's in the right ballpark. My son could help me by putting together all the pieces with pearls for the treasure chest and that sort of thing. Personally, I would guess it would be best suited to a 6 or 7 year old.
The finished size is 2 feet by 3 feet, and the individual pieces are about 3 inches across.
