Nirve Fifty Tree Men's BikeMar 21, 2011
By L. S. HIGHLY recommend this bike. Easy to put together out of the box. Built sturdy and to last. My husband is a big guy and loves this bike. Wonderful reproduction of a fifties bike. The auto shifting shifts very smoothly. Worth the extra money. Will probably last for years and years.

Nirve Fifty-Three - Almost everything I hoped for.May 16, 2011
By JC Pros: Nice looking bike. Easy to assemble. Customer support was friendly and fairly helpful. Replaced the fenders quickly, but I am still waiting on a replacement tire (I ended up having to replace it myself).
Cons: Bike arrived damaged, the front fender was bent, both tires arrived flat, and after sitting on the rim, while shipping, the rear tire was torn. All in all, I had to "true" the front tire, replace the spoke tape on both rims, buy a new tire, two tire tubes and a few small nuts and bolts that were needed to finish assembly. The Nexus 3-Speed Hub is barely adequate, it has trouble shifting under high loads. It would probably be just fine for a smaller rider, but can be annoying for a bigger rider like me (The size of the bike is suitable for a larger rider, I'm 6'3" and the frame fits me just fine.)
I bought this bike at the same time as purchasing a Republic Bike for my girlfriend. The Republic Bike was well packaged. Everything was thoroughly secured to prevent the contents from shifting and well wrapped to protect against scratching while it was shipped. Comparing the two experiences the Republic Bike was much easier to assemble and everything arrived as expected.
I will finish by saying that Amazon offered to replace the bike completely. I however declined because it would have been a two to three week turn-around to get my replacement bike. Besides being difficult to repackage and ship back, I thought it would be easier and much faster to repair most of the bike and get it ridable myself. The cost of replacement parts to repair my bike was less than $40.

Good Design but a Real Pain!Sep 05, 2011
By Da Cyborg I decided to buy this bike because I liked the old skool design look, I also liked it because it was a 3-speed. I am very happy with the overall look of the bike. However, setting up the bike was a real headache. I had to return the first bike I received because it arrived with a few scratches and dings on it, the rear wheel was not working properly, the seat clamp was missing, and the fenders were slightly bent. When the second bike arrived, the springer fork was defective and the front fender was damaged, the front wheel was wobbly so I had to true it at the local bike shop, and it was also missing two little plastic straps that brace the shifting cable along the down tube of the bike (I just used zip ties instead). I called Nirve customer service and they shipped me replacement parts, however the springer fork I received didn't look brand new, but I installed it anyway, and the front fender they sent me was the wrong one. Still waiting for the right one.
Overall, the internal 3-speed hub system on this bike is okay if you don't mind the loud clicking noise in the 2nd and 3rd gears, it's not as quiet or smooth as a traditional multi-speed de-railer systems. It's a little annoying at first but you kinda get used to it after a while. Also, setting up the front brake is a real pain because there is not enough room between the wheel and brake pads, so the brake pads skim the wheel when rotating which causes resistance when you ride. Using a hand brake combined with a coaster brake takes some getting used to, its a little weird at first.
It seems like Nirve doesn't check its bikes to make sure they are in pristine condition before they are shipped to customers and bike shops. I didn't anticipate all of these problems with high end Nirve bikes. I would recommend buying this bike directly from a bike shop, that way, the bike shop can deal with whatever problems arise before they display it and not you. Setting the bike up was a real pain, but I am now happy with the bike. Im always getting compliments, plus its a chick magnet too :)
*Amazon has a good return policy.
Great bikeJan 15, 2012
By Dpott This is great high quality bike. No damage out of the box but it did take longer than expected to assemble, it is not 85 percent assembled. I have about 10 miles on my bike and getting use to the 3 speeds takes some time.
