It was the best Christmas giftFeb 16, 2010 This was really the best gift I cld get... Educational value and fun.. Kept my nephew busy for good amount of time. It's made of plastic so very durable and with numbers on each piece it's easy to build but still difficult to put everything together. I recommend all kids have this.. Even after 2 months he still plays I spy country.
Great globeFeb 10, 2010 This item is very durable. My 8-year old grandson enjoyed assembling it so much that he has assembled and disassembled it 3 times now. Great for geography and great for consruction.
If at first you don't succeedJan 31, 2010 The earth puzzle ball was a gift for my husband. He had been looking for a globe and I thought putting one together would be additional fun (plus the stand was appealing). We put the first puzzle ball together over several days only to discover a few pieces were missing. So I wrote to Amazon and explained the situation and they shipped another one very quickly. This one went together much faster and is now on display - where we use it often.
My thanks to Amazon for their excellent customer service - if you are looking for a fun gift that could involve the entire family, the Earth 540 pc. puzzle ball is a great choice.
GOOD STUFFJan 26, 2010 COULDN'T FIND THIS ANYWHERE BUT AMAZON, OF COURSE. QUICK SERVICE, GREAT PUZZLE, WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS PRESENT. STILL NOT TOGETHER YET.
Fun activity with a few weak points...Jan 21, 2010 We bought this for our family as a gift and assembled it together so it does make for a fun group activity. It is also educational - we learned quite a bit of geography putting the globe together.
There are some weak points worth noting about this product though. Many times the pieces were a bit loose (didn't fit together very tightly) whereas sometimes you really had to jam the pieces together to make them fit. You can check to make sure you are putting the right pieces together (the back of the peices are numbered - very helpful for the water) so it's not like we were trying to fit pieces together that just didn't fit.
Another problem we had is that the text (eg. names of bodies of water, cities etc.) doesn't always line up. I expected all the pieces to come from one globe but this doesn't seem to be the case. This would probably also explain why some pieces didn't fit together well.
My final problem with this product is the insert that comes with the globe to show you what the globe should look like. The "map" they provide is incredibly small and hard to read. I find it hard to believe that they couldn't make it a little bigger.
Overall though, putting the puzzle together was quite fun. The stand that comes with the globe looks nice and allows the globe to rotate freely when in place. Once assembled the puzzle does look pretty cool. Had it not been for the misaligned text, I think I probably would have given the puzzle 5 stars rather than 4 overall.
