Not a good substitute for WebkinzAug 14, 2007
By Hmmmk
"Female Tech Junkie"
During the Webkinz lull, when every store was waiting on their backordered plushes, Shining Stars stuffed animals were suggested as an alternative.
My 8 year old daughter plucked a cow out of the bunch. I presented a few more dollars than a Webkinz price to the cashier and home we went to excitedly enter the "secret code" on the Shining Stars website.
My daughter was completely unimpressed, as was I, asking each other if there was more. The plush cow is cute enough, and the website is interesting with some games, but this is NOT a Webkinz substitute. She couldn't interact with her pet, like she hoped. No dressing, feeding, chatting, etc. No building and decorating a house for your pet. Mostly, Shining Stars just has some Flash arcade type games.
The really neat thing about it is that you get to name and register your own star with the International Star Registry and that a portion of the proceeds goes toward the Starlight Starbright charity.
From what I've heard, Russ's Shining Stars website is still new with more changes to come. My daughter and I continue to be optimistic that her cow will become a more interactive virtual pet.
Naming of stars DISCONTINUEDMar 24, 2012
By Krystle It would have been helpful if this was indicated in the item description by the seller. The company who makes these has advised on their websites that these toys have been discontinued and naming the stars is no longer an option. It's the whole reason I got this stuffed animal and we are very disappointed.
It was a giftJul 15, 2009
By Samantha J. Taylor My friend really likes cows, and so I found this one and really thought she would like it. She loved it, she even named it after me.
AWESOMEFeb 22, 2009
By Cindy A. Brown I have really enjoyed giving this to my new grandson. I know that having a star named for him will bring him years of enjoyment. Thank you so much for making this available.
A stuffed toy our 4 year daughter lovesJan 08, 2009
By Oliver Cornell Our 4 year old named her cow "moo boo", and carried it with her everywhere for the first couple weeks. It has been a great comfort to her on long flights. She loves playing games on the associated website as well. This was a great buy, and a great gift.
