5A great old-fashioned pastime for a winter eveningJan 19, 2009
By Linda Bulger
State Birds & Flowers 1000 Piece Puzzle was our first jigsaw from White Mountain Puzzles. It was great quality, with neat cut edges and very crisp printing. What a lot to pack into one puzzle -- for each state plus D.C and four territories, there is a little sketch showing the bird and flower against a background appropriate to the state's environment. Challenging! Do you know how many states have the cardinal as state bird? Seven -- each drawn a little differently for the puzzle. That's a lot of red pieces.

Doing jigsaw puzzles may feel like wasting time, but it's a winter tradition at our house. My husband and I spent a few chilly evenings putting this together while listening to books on CD. Several times a day I'd stop on my way by and study the puzzle until I could place at least one piece. It's satisfying to create order out of chaos, especially at a time of year when the weather can seem so chaotic and out-of-control. Working puzzles together fosters collaboration and a sense of process, qualities that are useful in life generally. Great for children but also a good tune-up for adults.

I don't know where we got this great puzzle, though I'm sure someone gave it to us. Whoever you are, if you read this, THANKS! we love it. White Mountain Puzzles has a superb selection, I see, and we'll surely want to get our hands on more.

The finished puzzle is 24" by 30" so you need a big workspace to spread the pieces out. If jigsaw puzzles are your thing, you're sure to love this one.

5State Bird and flower puzzleSep 23, 2009
By K. Anglim "Kathy Anglim"
We took this puzzle to the beach in case we had a rainy day. It didn't rain, but it sure provided a lot of sunshine and fun. It was very addictive. Of the six adults and four children, no one could pass the table without placing a piece or two. When we got to the end we were all so excited to see it completed. It brought the family together for a common purpose and we learned something about each state.

1Missing PiecesJan 02, 2012
By shelby
I ordered a puzzle from this company on December 7th. I had ordered it with the intent of gluing it together and giving it as a framed present to my mom. I figured that around twenty days before Christmas was ample time for delivery and assembly. On the website, they say that missing a piece from your puzzle box is a rare occurence. However, upon putting my puzzle together, I was missing around twenty pieces (all from one corner) and I also had duplicate pieces. I looked on the website and contacted them through email on December 13th and explained to them what the issue was. They responded, telling me that they couldn't send me certain pieces because of factory differences. They asked that I send them the duplicate pieces and a letter with an explanation of my problem. They told me they'd be able to send me another puzzle. I did so and they recieved my letter on the 20th. It is January 1st, 2012 and I have yet to receive my replacement puzzle. The puzzle is nice, however, if you're looking for the puzzle as a gift and need it for a certain date, I'd look elsewhere. If you're missing pieces, good luck.
