A horse’s broken leg is usually devastating for both horse and owner – successful recoveries are few and far between. But thanks to the determination of owner Lowell Boone and Little Buckeroo’s big heart, this darling buckskin Miniature Horse not only recovered fully – he managed to be named the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA) Grand National Champion Senior Stallion the very next year! In 1983, shortly before Buckeroo won the first of his three national titles, Boone made the difficult decision to sell the five-year-old stallion. Ed and Marianne Eberth of Little King Farm, Madison, Indiana, jumped at the chance to own the horse they’d admired since they first saw him. The Eberth’s had already purchased a superior group of broodmares. Bringing Buckeroo into their breeding shed ensured his place in Miniature Horse history. To date, this 24-year-old stallion, now named Boone’s Little Buckeroo, has produced an astounding number of show winning get, including 23 AMHA National Grand and Reserve winners. Seven of the last ten AMHA National Grand Champion Senior Stallions have been Buckeroo sons or grandsons! Many who have been involved with Buckeroo and his get over the years believe that this stallion will go down in Miniature Horse history as one of the most influential stallions in the foundation of the modern American Miniature Horse.
